We planned this trip in advance. As I am adamant that everything needs planning and organisation beforehand, I needed to know every detail. Depending on where we go, we need to see where the weather, but also where the sun rises and sets, the tides and how accessible places are.
We set out at 02:30am, silly time I know, but we needed to get there for sunrise. With us I mean my wonderful group of photography friends, which I have met through Instagram! Daphne Wuenn, Neil Harrison, Tom Ormerod and Jo Louise. We all share a common objective which made the trip very pleasant, and I feel we all bonded a little more.
We arrived at 05:30am at Clovelly, and had to do a very dark, cold, long trek in the woods (with just our torches and a map to guide us). After walking for what seemed like ages, we finally saw a glimpse of Blackchurch Rock from between the trees and heard the waves of the ocean crashing around it. My heart started to race! I dreamt about this place, now I finally was going to see it with my own eyes and capture it as a memory forever.
As you might know, I am a film fanatic, anything that reminds me of a film scene is precious to me. My favourite films must be the Lord of the Rings (LOTR) trilogy, and Devon certainly had little hints of the scenery seen in LOTR.
This is why, by the end of a long but epic journey, I rushed to see the sunset over Hartland, where the earth’s crust were risen from the sea and I truly felt blessed with something special. The scenery showed hints of Mordor, otherworldly planets and Chronicles of Riddick! I was in my element, nobody could stop me making these pictures! And they are my favourite to date as they give me a little piece of my own film – and I was starring in it.
