The Pre-Raphaelite Legacy lives on with Alan Lee

Beyond the Brotherhood: The Pre-Raphaelite Legacy illustrates how Pre-Raphaelitism lives on in contemporary art & culture, as seen in fantasy art illustrations & films such as in The Lord of the Rings, and the fantastic series Game of Thrones.

It was a real privilege filming and talking to these amazing people such as Kieran Belshaw (concept artist on Game of Thrones), Gareth Malone, Kirsty Walker, Dr Anne Anderson and of course Alan Lee at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum. We learnt more about how the artworks still influence us today, for someone like myself creating digital work.

Alan Lee’s illustrations with the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were always fascinating to me growing up, my father brought me those books when I was just a child – and as I loved it so much it has inspired the way I look at imagery and creative work today.
